Our 9 Lives

There seems to be plenty of advice available for candidates from other companies about ‘how to succeed’ in the recruitment process....all good stuff. These are our ‘hot tips’ or 9 Lives:

  1. The CV gets you the interview – if you’re not getting interviews, the problem lies with the CV. If you’re getting interviews but no offers, the problem lies with your interview technique! Read on...
  2. Some general points about CV’s:
  • It should be written for the person reading it not the person writing it.
  • Avoid jargon & internal job titles that do not have meaning in the outside world.
  • It should present you in your best possible light, i.e. highlight your strengths and avoid your weaknesses.
  • It should excite the reader by talking his/ her language and providing positive information that is relevant.
  • If you feel defensive about certain information, then leave it out.
  • A CV is a marketing tool not a legally binding document. It is your ‘Shop window’
  • White space sells so don’t try and cram too much in – stick to the main points.
  • Keep it clear, concise and positive.
  • Paint pictures with words – who were your customers, what were your products, who were your suppliers, what did the company do, what did you do etc. Focus on achievements
  • Make it a page – turner...get them wanting to know more! Having read it they must say, “I want to meet this person”
