There seems to be plenty of advice available for candidates from other companies about ‘how to succeed’ in the recruitment process....all good stuff. These are our ‘hot tips’ or 9 Lives:
- The CV gets you the interview – if you’re not getting interviews, the problem lies with the CV. If you’re getting interviews but no offers, the problem lies with your interview technique! Read on...
- Some general points about CV’s:
- It should be written for the person reading it not the person writing it.
- Avoid jargon & internal job titles that do not have meaning in the outside world.
- It should present you in your best possible light, i.e. highlight your strengths and avoid your weaknesses.
- It should excite the reader by talking his/ her language and providing positive information that is relevant.
- If you feel defensive about certain information, then leave it out.
- A CV is a marketing tool not a legally binding document. It is your ‘Shop window’
- White space sells so don’t try and cram too much in – stick to the main points.
- Keep it clear, concise and positive.
- Paint pictures with words – who were your customers, what were your products, who were your suppliers, what did the company do, what did you do etc. Focus on achievements
- Make it a page – turner...get them wanting to know more! Having read it they must say, “I want to meet this person”
